Students will learn how a variety of art forms communicate a variety of messages that can be open for interpretation or have a clear message. Students will learn that art is not just about painting a ‘pretty’ picture but rather is an expression of the artist, reflected in a variety of mediums. This is the beauty and power of art, seen in not just art but in music, theatre, and dance. Students will focus on the art form of dance, creating pieces in mutual collaboration with the school’s dance department, picking and creating compositions that ‘express’ a message. Students will also learn about the artist Edgar Degas, impressionism, his striking compositions and use of color.
